The Southern Environmental Association (SEA) recently completed its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 17th August 2014 with a total of 81 stakeholders coming from Punta Gorda, Punta Negra, Monkey River, Independence, Placencia, Seine Bight and Hopkins and even representatives from the Oak Foundation, Association of Protected Areas Management Organization (APAMO), Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), National Protected Areas Secretariat (NPAS), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), Fragments of Hope, Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), Placencia Village Council and Placencia Tour Guides Association. The purpose of our AGM is to report the events and financial status of the previous year (2013) to our stakeholder communities.
The day started out with the transportation of stakeholders from their communities to Placencia Village Community Center followed by a fun-filled 2-hour session of presentations, giveaways and ice breaker. Many prizes were given away to lucky persons from our local businesses and individuals. Five awards were given out to: Mr. Glen Eiley, Mr. Brian Young, Mrs. Shelly Pollard, Mrs. Lydia Villanueva, and Mr. Wade Bevier for their diligent work in getting Laughing Bird Caye protected in the very beginning. Subsequent to the activities on the agenda, lunch was served and most of the meeting attendees jumped on a bus and took off to Habaneros at The Inn at Robert’s Grove where the Placencia Princess party boat was waiting. 65 persons boarded this beautiful boat, courtesy of The Inn at Robert’s Grove, and took off for a lovely tour of the Placencia lagoon. The day ended after the tour and everyone went back home to their different communities.
SEA thanks all the persons/organizations/businesses who humbly contributed to make the day a very successful one.
